LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- No injuries were reported after a two-alarm fire Saturday morning in the basement of the Excalibur Hotel & Casino.

Clark County Senior Deputy Fire Chief Eric Newman said the fire began about 10:45 a.m. in a couple of linen carts in the basement.

"The sprinkler system kept the fire contained and then fire crews went in and got the rest of the fire out," Newman told News 3. "I believe they had to evacuate the employees in the basement and maybe the first floor or lobby just as a precaution. There was some smoke."

Chief Bertral Washington said about 70 firefighters from Clark County and Las Vegas Fire & Rescue responded. Metro had streets blocked off around the hotel, 3850 Las Vegas Blvd. South, for a brief period of time to allow fire crews to respond.

An MGM spokeswoman, Yvette Monet, issued a statement Saturday afternoon. In part, it read:

“Hotel tower and casino operations were unaffected, although some guests entering the resort were briefly held outside while investigators made sure the incident was under control.
All normal guest operations have resumed.

“Some basement employee areas remain closed while investigators determine the cause of the incident."
