(NBC News) -- Negotiations over the fate of Syria's chemical weapons are moving forward, slowly.

Talks between Secretary of State John Kerry and Rusian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expanded into a larger exploration on how Russia and the United States might work together to bring an end to Syria's civil war.

Secretary Kerry called the latest talks in Geneva "constructive" at a Friday press conference.

Kerry and Lavrov will meet in New York in two weeks for another round of discussions.
