LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) – A team from the Occupational Health and Safety Administration started its investigation this morning into the death of a contractor working on the Third Straw Project at Lake Mead.
Thomas Turner, 44, of Henderson was killed Monday when he was hit by pressurized material that includes rock, sand and mud. The tunnel is being constructed out of huge concrete segments that make the tunnel's shape.
The segments are cemented to the rock wall using this pressurized material called grout. One of the concrete blocks slipped out of place, the grout shot out, killing the worker.
The tunnel work has been shut down to allow for a complete investigation into how that block slipped.
