LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) — The 15th Annual Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Relay Run began this morning in Las Vegas at the Southern Nevada Law Enforcement Memorial at Memorial Park.
It is scheduled to conclude May 1 at the Nevada Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial in Carson City.
The run is held in conjunction with National Police Memorial Week, scheduled for May 11 to 17. The Nevada Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial ceremony will be held on May 1 in Carson City. All Nevada peace officers, federal, state, county, and local, have been invited to participate in the Run.
The run is divided into 126 segments, reflecting the 126 names on the Nevada Law Enforcement Officers’ Memorial.
The runners will carry a baton containing those names. Batons will be presented to the families of the three officers being honored this year at the memorial service: Metro Officer David VanBuskirk, who was killed July 23 during a rescue attempt on Mount Charleston; Southern Pacific Railroad Police Department Watchman John Montague Southern Pacific (died Jan. 5, 1905); and SPRPD Watchman Jose Sancedo (died Aug. 11, 1937).
The runners will follow U.S. 95 and U.S. 95A to Yerington, then take Highway 208 U.S. 395 and proceed north to Carson City.
The service at the Nevada Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial in Carson City will begin at noon May 1. The public is invited to attend.
