LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- An effort to get more Metro police officers on our streets is on hold.

County commissioners delayed a vote on a sales tax hike which Clark County voters approved back in 2004.

News 3's Mackenzie Warren spoke with Commissioner Susan Brager who led the charge to hold this More Cops tax.

Commissioner Brager voted yes on this sales tax increase twice before but yesterday just before the third and final vote she had second thoughts.

Commissioner Brager lead the charge to stop the more cops tax--at least for now.

She says it’s been a rough few weeks for Metro and that showed at yesterday's meeting.

A long line of mostly angry constituents spoke out against the tax and then there is a $124 million pot of reserve money Sheriff Doug Gillespie won't tap into.

Brager wants to know why.

“The last 10 days a lot happened at Metro,” Brager said. “Use of force board… six people walking away—that stimulates the environment around us and the people to say what’s happening.”

To be clear, Brager's known about this $124 million surplus but says the public's growing concerns pushed her to speak out. She thinks the sheriff could pull out $30 million from that reserve--that's about what the more cops sales tax would generate for Metro in one year.

Brager insists her decision to pull the vote was not political. She says it's about proving to the public this money is necessary.

She knows the job of Metro officers is not easy.

Yesterday the sheriff repeatedly asked for a 60-day timeline for commissioners to bring this back for a vote.

Brager said she is not ready to pinned to any deadline. She says the timing is hard.
