LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- As the department of family services investigates what went wrong in the death of a 7-year-old boy, News 3 is learning more about accused killer Markiece Palmer, who police say beat his stepson for not reading his bible and not finishing his homework.
Could the Clark county student beaten to death have been saved?
It's a big question after learning school officials spotted the abuse of a child and reported it. According to the Review-Journal the boy, R.J. Arrington, was uncomfortable sitting in class after complaining of spankings.
News 3 broke the story about the welfare hotline call regarding abuse concerns at Arrington's home last Wednesday. Social workers did not respond the day of the call.
Police say that night the boy was beaten by his mother and step-father then hospitalized Thursday, but he died Friday.

Markiece Palmer had only been married to his wife Dina since November of last year. News 3 is told they met online and online is where we learned more about the man.
We found video of Palmer online called 'The Confessions of Fire' by Markiece Palmer. It's unclear if he is in character or he is sharing his personal views, but it describes a frustration with those who are religious.
Then there are interpretations of the bible and suggestions on how people should live their lives in order to distance themselves from the devil.
Markiese palmer and his wife are being held without bail.
