LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- Smart Meters are a device intended to track your energy use but some worry about effects on privacy and health.

News 3's Marissa Mike with news from a Public Utility Commission meeting and proposed charges. Smart meter installations are about complete in Southern Nevada. Yet thousands of people have safety and security concerns about the meters.

Ideally they'd like to opt out of smart meters for free but NV Energy says refusing a smart meter will cost money and opt-out customers should foot that bill.

I COSTS money to send an employee out to read a meter, a job that can be done electronically for next to nothing. If you don't want to live in the 21st century based on something you read on the internet, YOU PAY for it.. Where did you get your degree in electromagnetism? You are not going to raise rates on the rest of us so you can have an antique; the banks are not going to cut us a break on financing. I drive a car; do I have to subsidize your horse and buggy too?

Since the meters were installed without our permission, I think there should be no fee to remove them. We weren't given the option to have them, why should we be charged to remove them? Yet another desperate money grab by the PUC

There are nothing wrong with Smart meters. This is a scare tactics brought to you by, AARP, the most liberal organization next to the Democratic party. Smart meters are not invading your privacy, is less harmful than you micro way, and a way NV Energy can reduce over cost. The only ones complaining are seniors.
