LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- It was round two Wednesday night for parents in the southwest valley to sound off on why they don't want schools rezoned.

The Clark County School District held another public input meeting. Its proposal to deal with overcrowding could send at least 2,500 students to different schools.

The School District says the southwest area has not gotten a new school in three years. In that same time, school enrollment rates went up.

It hoped to get two new schools if voters had approved a November ballot initiative, which failed.

Too many students at those southwest schools is a problem only expected to get worse as construction continues on new housing developments and people start moving in.

That problem becomes even clearer as a housing development site is in the works just right across the street from Forbuss Elementary School.

Rick Baldwin, director of demographics and zoning for the School District, says no money for new schools plus increased enrollment in southwest schools equals overcrowding.

Three proposals are on the table -- each with different boundaries – which are meant to alleviate overcrowding.

But not all are popular with parents.

The Zoning Advisory Commission will decide which proposal to submit to the School Board of Trustees on Tuesday. The School Board can use all of one proposal or combine different elements from each.
