LAS VEGAS — Forty-seven pedestrians lost their lives in 2013 within the jurisdiction of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department after being struck by vehicles. Many others were injured.

Metro officers, along with volunteer members of the Southern Nevada Traffic Safety Committee will help promote pedestrian safety at 6 p.m. today at the intersection of Fremont Street and Las Vegas Boulevard.

Officers and volunteers will hand out pedestrian safety fliers in this high-density pedestrian area. The goal is to help prevent pedestrian fatalities and injuries through education.

The event is anticipated to last for about one hour.
