LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) —
Pero Soldo, the father of slain Metro Officer Igor Soldo, says he brought his family from Bosnia to the United States in 1995 to escape war and to gain religious freedom.
Soldo, 31, and fellow Metro Officer Alyn Beck, 41, were killed late Sunday morning in an ambush attack at Cici’s Restaurant on North Nellis Boulevard, near Stewart.
The shooters, identified today as Jerad and Amanda Miller, later killed a Las Vegas man at a nearby Walmart before killing themselves.
“It is just heartbreaking that somebody from the street, not know anyone and just start killing people,” Pero Soldo said in a phone interview from Lincoln, Neb. “It is something I can't imagine. I was three or four years in the war, and I thought it was behind us in Bosnia, so it's hard to imagine.”
Pero Soldo was a fire chief and his brother a police officer, highly influencing his son Igor's decision to enter law enforcement. Igor, according to his father, said the best place to be a cop was in Las Vegas.
“But he always said, ‘I’m going to be okay, Dad,’ ” Pero Soldo said.
