LAS VEGAS (Las Vegas Sun) -- Two males suspected of committing an armed robbery and carjacking early Monday morning led police on a brief vehicle pursuit as they fired at a patrol officer, Metro Police reported.
Officers eventually forcibly stopped the suspects’ stolen vehicle and arrested the juvenile driver and a passenger, 21-year-old Hugo Baldovinos, of North Las Vegas, police said.
The incident began shortly after 12:30 a.m. in the 3600 block of West Sahara Avenue, near Valley View Boulevard. Police had responded to reports that two males armed with handguns had robbed a male and female and stolen their black Ford sedan.
A patrol officer spotted the stolen vehicle near Arville Street and Oakey Boulevard a short time later and tried to conduct a traffic stop, police said.
The vehicle continued driving and as the patrol officer followed, someone fired shots at the officer from the passenger side of the vehicle, police said.
The officer pursued the stolen vehicle without stopping or firing shots, police said. As the vehicle slowed to round a corner, a female jumped out, police said. She immediately surrendered to police and was later released.
Meanwhile, the stolen vehicle continued driving before ultimately entering a parking lot near Valley View Boulevard and Flamingo Road, where police forcibly stopped it. The driver and passenger attempted to flee on foot but were caught by patrol officers, police said.
Baldovinos and the juvenile, whose name has not been released, were arrested on numerous counts, including attempted murder of a police officer, battery with a deadly weapon, felony evading, battery on a police officer, robbery with a weapon, grand larceny auto and conspiracy, police said.
The pair also had “numerous outstanding warrants” for other crimes, police said.
