LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3 & AP) – One person has been arrested and charged in the death of a man attacked in the courtyard of an apartment complex during a barbecue.
Ronald Stampley, 23, is in the Clark County Detention Center and charged with the murder of Kary Wells, 37.
A Metro police report says around 9 p.m. Feb. 1 in the 2900 block of Charleston Boulevard, Stampley and another person accused Wells of being a rival gang member, then struck the victim. Wells hit the ground and was unresponsive.
One of the men reportedly asked Wells whether he was a Blood, and then hit him in the head when Wells said he used to be.
Another witness said Stampley stomped on Wells' head after Wells appeared to gain consciousness. The pair then fled.
Wells was taken to Sunrise Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Stampley is scheduled for a court appearance Thursday morning.
