LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- A long standoff ends in gunfire when a SWAT officer shoots a woman who barricaded herself and her children inside a home.
Metro says definitively Sara Jones, 29, fired first.
News 3's Fatima Rahmatullah is working our top story live where all this went down at Tropicana and Mountain Vista.
The nearly 24-hour standoff ended late Tuesday night after officers returned fire and shot Jones, the mother that was holed up in a valley home with two of her children.
The ordeal started around 11:30 p.m. Monday in the 4500 block of newton drive, near Tropicana and Mountain Vista. Police say Jones' husband called 9-1-1 for a domestic situation.
Police say Jones grabbed a handgun and her husband ran out of the home with their 10-year-old son.
Jones stayed inside with her 2- and 3-year old boys.
Police say Jones was threatening to kill herself and the children and that's when SWAT went inside.
Police say the woman shot one of their SWAT officers -- who was wearing body armor -- in the shin. That's when the officer returned fire, striking her in the face. She was transported to the hospital.
