LAS VEGAS (Las Vegas Sun) -- President Barack Obama will visit UNLV next week, according to university and White House officials.
Obama is expected to be on campus June 7 for an "official event," a White House official said Wednesday. Other details of Obama's trip have not been released and it was not known if the event would be open to the public.
The last time the president was at the university was in July 2010, when he made a campaign stop for U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, who was facing a difficult midterm re-election fight.
This will be the third trip to the Las Vegas Valley this year for Obama, who is running for re-election this fall. Obama made an overnight visit in January and made a midday stopover in March. On both of those trips, the president promoted his administration’s energy policies.
This month, first lady Michelle Obama was in Las Vegas for a campaign fundraiser.
It was not immediately known what the focus of next week’s presidential visit would be.
The presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Mitt Romney, was in Las Vegas on Tuesday for a fundraiser and campaign stop.
Nevada is seen as one of the so-called "swing states" that are seen as key to winning the White House in November.
