LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) --
At least two groups are planning protests Sunday morning at the entrance to Red Rock National Recreation Area west of Las Vegas.
A veterans group is planning a vigil for 9 a.m. Sunday to protest the closure of the Defending Freedom War Memorial at Red Rock.
Vic Moss, adjutant of American Legion Paradise Post 149, said the vigil coincides with protests taking place across the country, including a major event at the World War II, Korean and Vietnam Veterans War memorials in Washington.
In a related event, organizers said "Occupy Red Rock" will take place to express disappointment and disapproval of the Obama administration for punishing the American people by "closing" national parks and monuments, oceans, etc., and instructing law enforcement to make life as difficult as possible for the citizens Mr. Obama is supposed to represent us, not punish us. If they can staff the parks to turn people away, they could just as easily staff them to let people in.
"In addition to this, it is also to express our disappointment with Congress in it's failure to pass budgets and spending bills. It is our belief that Congress is serving its own needs rather than that of their constituents."
The event will take place starting at 9 a.m. at the Red Rock Canyon entrance. A link to the Facebook page.www.facebook.com/occupyredrock
