LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- Hispanics in Politics held a question and answer session with the senate majority leader at the Dona Maria restaurant in downtown Las Vegas.
Reid touched on the more recent crisis of women and children from Central America flooding our borders. The president has asked congress for two billion dollars to fund ways to deter more people from crossing and to secure the borders. Reid says it's important to remember the issue is a humanitarian crisis.
"We have to figure a way to take care of this issue in a humane fashion. We can't use these children as pawns, so we're going to see what the legislation is and I'm going to do everything I can to make sure that the kids are treated properly."
When it comes to immigration reform, Reid is not optimistic, saying he does not expect to see anything happen, in large part because house speaker John Boehner refuses to allow a vote for comprehensive immigration reform. Reid also called out Representative Joe Heck for not backing up his talk for a meaningful push toward immigration reform.
