LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) — With just a few days left until the opening of the downtown mob museum, we're looking at some of the key events from the days of organized crime in Las Vegas.

The mafia had an inside man running casino operations — Frank “Lefty” Rosenthal, but as Tom Hawley reports, when Lefty faced off with a rising star in Nevada politics the house of cards started to tumble.

Nobody looks good among the key players in this story but when it was over, one was on his way out as a gaming figure and the other rose to one of the top political positions in the land.

This is look at what happened on Nov. 18, 1978 in a convention center meeting room packed with radio, TV and newspaper reporters.
