LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- A popular 25-year-old saddle bronc rider was killed Saturday night during competition at the Indian National Finals Rodeo at South Point Hotel & Casino.

J.D. Jones of Goodman, Mo., was killed at the 37th annual Indian National Finals Rodeo. The horse apparently kicked him in the head and then fell on him.

"We are saddened by the death of J.D. Jones at last night's rodeo," a statement from the INFR read. "J.D. was a favorite of the rodeo because of his passion and respect of the sport and he died doing something he loved. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of J.D. at this difficult time. Thanks to the Indian nation who have rallied behind J.D.'s family with support both financially and personally."
