LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- The Clark County School District Board of Trustees met for about 12 hours Thursday, covering a lot of ground, including naming Pat Skorkowsky as interim superintendent.

They also have been working on the plan to look for a permanent one and laid some groundwork toward that search.

Representatives of teachers, school administrators and the business community voiced their opinions on how they think the School Board should pick a new superintendent. A fifth-grader also offered her advice.

The trustees voted to begin negotiations with search firm McPherson & Jacobson, the same search firm that found outgoing superintendent Dwight Jones.

They also voted that the search firm will have to come up with at least four finalists. The School Board is aiming for the superintendent to be in place between October and December.

They will also require the search firm to attend some community meetings to get public input.

The School Board says if they don't like the search firm's finalists, then the search firm will have to start over for free.

Also, if the new superintendent does not stay at least two years, the firm would have to conduct another search at no cost to the district.
