LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- The unemployment rate went up in June to 10.1 percent which is the highest it's been since January.

So tonight we have good news for job seekers.

The Clark County School District is hiring hundreds of people to fill positions and isn't limiting the search to local candidates.

News 3's Elizabeth Donatelli joins us from Chaparral High School with more on the search.

The school district is recruiting people across the country, not just for the vacant positions, but also for new ones. As for teachers, CCSD says it has gotten more applications this year than ever before.

“Teacher applications are the highest they've ever been,” said Staci Vesneske, who is in charge of hiring for CCSD. “Personnel are over 90 percent of our budget, so obviously we want to make sure when were are spending those kind of dollars to have quality people to fill the roles.”

The district is adding 800 new teaching positions and has another 1,100 open existing jobs to fill.

The district is hiring mostly first-year teachers and those out of state by recruiting online. There are about 200 teaching jobs left.

Other openings include substitute teachers, bus drivers, and part-time food services positions.

“Obviously we only want people that really want to work with kids,” Vesneske said. “I also think that people might be looking for a different type of job, This is a great opportunity to tell people to consider being a substitute teacher and you have 60 credits, this is definitely a way to earn money.”
