LAS VEGAS – The Southern Nevada Immunization & Health Coalition has announced its regional schedule of summer Back-to-School immunization events to help children and their families stay healthy throughout the upcoming school year.

The "3-2-1 Vaccine Countdown," which includes 3 doses of HPV (human papillomavirus), 2 doses of Meningococcal, and 1 dose of Tdap vaccine, that is recommended for children 11-12 years of age, together with the vaccines required for kindergarten, will be available at all event sites.

“While families with newborns and toddlers are often well-informed of their immunization schedule, awareness seems to decrease as children get older, despite the importance of additional vaccines for tweens in middle-school between the ages of 11 and 12 years of age,” says Stacey Gross, manager of the Southern Nevada Immunization & Health Coalition. “This year we are offering the ‘3-2-1 Vaccine Countdown’ to help fully protect the health of this vulnerable adolescent population.”

In Nevada, a Tdap shot is required to enter the 7th grade. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends children also receive the HPV, Meningococcal, and the annual flu vaccine for full protection against disease.
