Augusta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Adam Scott wrapped up his title defense on Sunday with an even-par 72 to finish the 78th Masters at 1-over-par 289.
Scott was tied for 15th place when he finished. That would be the best finish in a title defense since Tiger Woods took third in 2006.
The Australian stumbled to bogeys at two and three to slide to plus-3. After three pars in a row, Scott poured in three consecutive birdies from the seventh to jump to even-par.
Scott bogeyed the tough par-4 11th to fall back to plus-1. He wrapped birdies on the 13th and 15th around a bogey on No. 14. Scott stumbled to a bogey on 17 to dip back to plus-1.
He closed out his title defense by draining a long par putt.
Since Woods's title defense in 2006, the defending champion had three top-20 finishes - Angel Cabrera tied for 18th in 2010, while Trevor Immelman and Zach Johnson in 2008 and 2009 both tied for 20th.
