PAHRUMP, Nev. (AP & KSNV MyNews3) — Authorities in Nevada say a candidate for sheriff in rural Nye County was arrested in a campaign sign theft case.

An arrest report made public Wednesday by the Nye County sheriff's office says Assistant Sheriff Rick Marshall was arrested about 7 p.m. Tuesday in Pahrump after a complaint by an official with a rival "Anybody but Rick Marshall" campaign.

Deputies reported stopping Marshall and another man, Ben Gulley, in a pickup truck towing a trailer containing Marshall campaign signs and at least one uprooted sign from the rival group.

Rick marshall is running for sheriff and is considered the front runner in the campaign.

Nye county sheriff deputies arrested Marshall for stealing campaign signs.

Marshall was arrested on possession of stolen property, conspiracy to commit a crime and resisting arrest charges.

As deputies arrested Marshall they say he resisted arrest by using his weight against the deputies and holding tight to a metal bar on the truck.

Eventually the undersheriff and Gulley were put in a squad car.

Marshall and Gulley were released on their own recognizance and they were supposed to be on administrative leave but according to sources Marshall is leading the department since current sheriff Tony Demeo is out of the country.

Many Nye county residents are upset over the accusations the undersheriff is facing.
