LAS VEGAS -- Las Vegas fire investigators are looking into what caused a fire that damaged a multi-vehicle carport in a condominium complex next Clark High School early Saturday morning.

Two adults and four children were displaced by the fire and being assisted by the American Red Cross.

There were no reported injuries.

Fire dispatchers received a number of calls at 4:52 a.m. that several vehicles parked under a carport at the Bradford Townhomes, 3917 Hartford Place, were on fire.

When firefighters arrived, they found one vehicle under a six-unit carport on fire as well as two of the carport units.

Firefighters had the fire under control in approximately eight minutes. They were able to keep the fire from extending to the condo units directly behind the carport.

The fire destroyed two carport units, heavily damaged one other unit and heavily damaged one vehicle parked under the carport.

Damage was estimated at $20,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Witnesses told fire investigators that homeless people broke into and have been staying in two vacant condo units directly behind the two carport units that were on fire.

Because of the fire, natural gas service and electric power to the condos behind the burned carport units was damaged by the fire and had to be shut off.

Because of the utilities being out of service, the American Red Cross is assisting two adults and four children who lived in an occupied condo.
