LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- Vehicle traffic headed south on Interstate 15 has been exceptionally slow today as thousands of visitors head back to California after the long holiday weekend.

The Nevada Highway Patrol said traffic was backed up from the California state line to St. Rose Parkway before noon and was expected to remain congested for several hours.

Traffic headed northbound on I-15 also encountered some delays about 11 a.m. when a four-vehicle accident near the Las Vegas Motor Speedway stopped traffic for about 30 minutes, NHP Sgt. Kevin Honea said.

He said any injuries were minor and the southbound lanes were not affected.

No traffic fatalities have been reported by law enforcement agencies during the Thanksgiving holiday.
