LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Gov. Rick Snyder says he has signed two bills that allow the testing of automated motor vehicles on Michigan roads.

Snyder says the bills follow his call for such legislation in his 2013 state of the state address.

He says Michigan "is the automotive capital of the world" and says that allowing testing of automated, driverless cars will help the state "stay at the forefront" in auto technology.

Snyder says that businesses and universities in Michigan are leading the way in many intelligent, connected vehicle programs aimed at driverless cars.

One bill lets automakers and others test automated motor vehicles. It requires a human to be in the driver's seat to monitor performance and intervene if necessary.

Another bill partly shields manufacturers from civil liability.
