this is not 1776 its a different world we need to think about banning assault rifles in 1776 u could own slaves but we outlawed that women weren't given the right to vote till 1919 things change and we have a militia its called the national guard I have no problem whit hand guns but a gun that can shot 100 rounds in 30 seconds is not needed

And by the way, don't try to get hunters to go with the assault weapons bans because of Bill Clintons old line of crap about not needing assault weapons to hunt. 2nd Ammendment isnt there to protect hunting. Does not even mention hunting. The 2nd ammendment assures that armed citizens can take down the government (1776 and 1865) or fight a war. Politicians should be afraid of an armed citizenry. That's the whole point.

How is it that a crazy person goes on a rampage and Steven Horsford and Dina Titus think the solution involves banning my constitutional rights? I think the press is just as much to blame as guns in these instances. How come nobody is discussing taking away freedom of the press as a solution? Dont like Joe Heck or Dean Heller, but they both say the right thing here. My gun rights are not open for discussion. None of my constitutional rights are.

For all the gun control advocates, what is the difference between an armed police response and a trained teacher responding to the threat? None. If you trust the teacher with your child, you should trust the teacher with a weapon for self-defense and your child. Give them a chance, if a teacher is willing to take a bullet for your child, allow them the chance to save their own life. Additionally, it is not your decision. The right to bear arms is guaranteed in the constitution, and has been upheld by the Supreme Court, you know the ultimate authority regarding law in our nation. Feel free to have "gun free" zones in your own home, do not tread on my rights. No where are you guaranteed to be able to strip me of my rights. You want a society where guns do not exist.....go to the moon, it is not practical or possible to eliminate guns. Criminals commit violent crimes with guns...criminals do not give a damn what laws are written. Last time I checked murder was a crime, and one that carries one of the biggest penalties. Anti-gun legislation is no deterrent to a criminal, or someone who thinks to commit horrific crimes such as these.

For the longest time we, in this country, have had fire alarm systems within our schools. One would be hard pressed to find a school, public or private, that did not have a system that at a minimum would sound an alarm within every corner of the institution warning every person, by sound and sight, to the danger and to evacuate. Most of these alarm systems even automatically initiate a response from first responders directly. Many institutions have similar types of warning systems for various local or regional emergencies, most notably tornadoes, to take shelter. Many others near chemical facilities to 'shelter in place'. With the techology that we have today, and have had for years, I believe there should be a system installed in every one of these institutions that can be activated by a remote carried by every member of the faculty and staff to be able to warn every person in the institution to seek shelter and take the necessary actions to protect themselves and anyone else they have been charged with protecting. Bless the person who activated the intercom at Sandy Hook ES that morning, potentionally exposing themselves to the gunfire, but saving countless others. This alarm should not only be sent to the 911 dispatcher, but directly to the first responders in the field. "Help I've fallen and can't get up" has become part of our lexicon years ago. Much of the time that one line has been the butt of jokes, but it works. The infrastructure for this system is already in these institutions. The technology exists. It should be a more prevelant part of the discussion.

thanks, but no thanks. i mean, again we get attacked by someone not only totally imbalanced. but someone who couldn't be more a part of the dominant culture (its highest status symbol actually) and we still can't talk about addressing the skewed wealth that defines this entire economy. hey, maybe it's the campaign contributions that have these career politicians / leaders omitting certain, obvious, facts? while the country falling off a cliff is ok before that changes? ntl, it's surely why i believe this pattern of worsening attacks is bound to continue!!!

The problem is not the guns. The problem is that some people shouldn't have guns in their hands. The reality is that if you take away gun from the people, only law abidig citizens will turn in their guns. Criminals don't care about these laws, that's why they are criminals in the first place. All you need to do is look a Chicago. In 2012 Chicago passed the toughest gun laws in the nation and do you know what happened? Their murder rate climbed 25%. There were more people murdered in Chicago than soldiers killed in Afghanistan in 2012. Our society is the problem, not guns. People aren't held accountable for their actions anymore. If someone commits a crime there is always an excuse, somehow that persons crime was caused by society. A man is killed by security guards/Walmart employees after being caught stealing electronics and everyone cries that they should have just let him go, that noones life is worth that electronic device. I agree that life is more valuable than any device, but that man brought it upon himself by stealing in the first place. If he was stealing food or milk for his home perhaps that is easier to understand someone stealing. Our society is the problem and the lack of accountability. I believe more armed citizens will help minimize these tragedies. There is no way to stop people from doing what Lonza did at that school. But you could certainly minimize what happened. If that school principal had a firearm she could have shot him instead of lunging at him, unarmed, and being murdered by that peice of garbage. People that want to kill other people will do it no matter what. Tim McViegh killed 200 people with fertizer, racing fuel, and a moving truck. Arm more QUALIFIED citizens and you minimize these stories. You know why you don't hear about concealed weap0ns carriers saving the day? Because noone died because that person/s was able to prevent this type of situation before it happened.

NV politicians once again split down the middle depending on their party rather than coming together to do something to stop this violence. Gun toting guards in schools will only invite more violence. Heck has not got the guts to stand up to NRA because of their influence. Heller bails and wants to rely on our constitution which does not address this issue. Horsford panders to Obama and has no idea but to let the VP tell him what to do. Titus is the only one who takes a stand. Sounds typical. Just like the budget agreement that won't happen.
