LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- After passing a budget, the Clark County School Board is hoping the state will make good on getting money to schools.

Some local students this morning showed why investing in education matters.

Fifty-four fourth- and fifth-grade students from Ethel W. Staton Elementary School were recognized as Great American-Great Nevadans this morning for their efforts to learn about the United States and the state of Nevada.

The students received a plaque for their accomplishments.

Interim Superintendent Pat Skorkowsky and Gov. Brian Sandoval addressed the students and parents in attendance.

The governor recently pledged an additional$120 million for priorities like reducing class sizes and English-language learning programs.

As for the students, they say this moment was worth all the hard work.

“It felt like the queen of the world. I'm very excited,” said student Erin Castillo. “I can't believe I got to shake hands with the governor.”
