Storm slams Vegas valley, raising flood concerns

LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) – Significant rains today are affecting road travel throughout the Las Vegas valley.

Flash flooding in the area resulted in two deaths within the past two months.

The American Red Cross has responded to flooding in the 7100 block of Forest Vista Street near Rainbow and Tropicana.

Red Cross Volunteers are meeting with the residents, providing means to ensure that their immediate needs of food, clothing and shelter are met.

Desert Rose High School and Adult High School, located at 444 W. Brooks Ave in North Las Vegas, have canceled classes from 2:30-8 p.m. due to today’s weather and street closures.

School is expected to resume a normal day tomorrow. The school will provide excused absences for those enrolled in tonight's classes.

The National Weather Service reported that heavy downpours from any stronger thunderstorms will be capable of producing more than a half-inch of rain in a short period of time that will result in flash flooding, especially in low lying areas as well as rapid flows in washes.

The Bullhead City Fire Department reported that the intersection of Desert Foothills Boulevard and Bullhead City Parkway was submerged before 9 a.m.
