Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Kicker Ryan Succop and linebacker Nico Johnson were among the final roster cuts by the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday.
Succop, the final selection of the 2009 draft, had been the kicker in Kansas City the past five seasons, connecting on 81 percent of his field goal attempts and all 160 of his extra-point tries during that time.
The release of Succop means that undrafted rookie Cairo Santos, a Brazilian native out of Tulane, will handle kicking duties.
Johnson was a fourth-round selection by Kansas City in 2013, but was injured during training camp last season and had limited playing time as a rookie.
Also, the team placed quarterback Tyler Bray and wide receiver Kyle Williams on injured reserve, while wide receiver Dwayne Bowe and offensive lineman Donald Stephenson were placed on the reserve/suspended list.
Bowe will miss Kansas City's regular-season opener against Tennessee for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy.
Kansas City also cut safeties Jonathon Amaya and Malcolm Bronson, fullback Jordan Campbell, defensive linemen Dominique Hamilton and Kona Schwenke, wide receivers Mark Harrison and Fred Williams, guard Ricky Henry, linebackers Alonzo Highsmith and Devan Walker, defensive tackle Kyle Love, cornerbacks Justin Rogers and DeMarcus Van Dyke, offensive tackle J'Marcus Webb and running back Charcandrick West. Additionally, defensive end Mike Catapano was placed on the non-football injury list.
