HENDERSON (KSNV MyNews3) -- A Henderson mother is demanding a murder suspect on the run turn himself in.
Metro police say 27-year old Joseph Lucero gunned down 23-year old Zach Girdner, and for the first time, the victim’s mother, Bonnie Girdner, is speaking out.
Police are still looking for the killer, and Girdner says she wants Lucero to pay.
“[It’s] important that he never does this again, and he doesn’t deserve to breathe,” Girdner said. “Everyone is devastated. This man needs to be caught. A death sentence. We don't need to waste taxpayer money on people that shoot others at point blank range.”
Girdner said homicide detectives told her Lucero shot her son Zach right at the manor suites apartment complex off of Las Vegas Blvd. Girdner says Zach took at least five shots. She considers Lucero a dangerous man.
“That was my only child,” Girdner said. “There's probably lots of other parents who only have that one child and this could happen again till he's caught."
Police say 23-year old Zach Girdner tried to drive himself to the hospital. Unfortunately, he crashed into three cars near the 215 and Eastern. Zach's mom knows her son did not deserve this.
“My son wasn't a bad kid,” Girdner said. Never been in trouble. Loved life. Lots of good friends and family.”
Bonnie Girdner has a message for the man on the run.
"Turn yourself in because you don't deserve to live."
