College Station, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Texas A&M men's basketball coach Billy Kennedy has received a two-year contract extension through 2018.

The school announced the extension Wednesday, with Aggies athletic director Eric Hyman saying in a statement that the program has made academic strides in Kennedy's three years at the helm while raising the talent level on the court.

"Our ultimate goal is to build the Texas A&M basketball program the right way, with a foundation for sustained postseason success," Hyman said.

Kennedy said, "Exciting times are coming for Aggie basketball. I can't wait for the season."

The Aggies are 50-49 since Kennedy was hired in May 2011 after Mark Turgeon left to coach Maryland. They went 18-16 last season and earned a berth in the CBI postseason tournament.

Kennedy took a medical leave of absence three years ago after he was diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson's disease at the age of 47. His teams have averaged 20 wins a season in his last 10 years at Southeastern Louisiana, Murray State and Texas A&M.
