NORTH LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) – Three children were killed Friday morning in a mobile home fire at Van’s Trailer Oasis mobile home park on Las Vegas Boulevard North.
Witnesses say the children – ages 18 months, 2 and 2½ -- were in the back room of one of the trailers. Firefighters tried to get into the residence but were unable to get the fire out.
Neighbors said they had tried to put the fire out with a hose.
The Clark County Fire Department was called to a fire at two mobile homes at 3610 North Las Vegas Boulevard at about 10:20 a.m. today.
Upon arrival, firefighters saw heavy smoke and flames coming from two mobile homes, and were told there were people trapped inside one of the homes.
Two adults and three children under the age of 3 were in one of the mobile homes. The adults escaped from the burning home. The children did not.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. About 55 firefighters from Clark County, Las Vegas and North Las Vegas responded to the two-alarm fire.
Clark County fire Battalion Chief Greg Cassell said firefighters fought heavy flames before finding the bodies of three children during the blaze at the mobile home park off Las Vegas Boulevard North and Cheyenne Avenue.
Cassell says the parents are hospitalized with minor injuries after attempting to extinguish the flames. A neighbor wasn't home when his trailer also burned.
Federal ATF agents have joined police and fire investigators at the scene.
There's not much left. The two mobile homes were reduced to blackened wooden ribs and charred rubble.
