What about the 4th Amendment? If the power company has access to what's going on your house, the government effectively has access to what's going on in your house. Where's the ACLU on this one. This is beyond the slippery slope. This is the Fox taking up residence in the Hen House.

There is NO justification for a Smart Meter. This is just another "grab" on behalf of a Public Utility company (NV Energy) to keep the salaries of top executives HIGH (the top dog makes $5.3 million/year; others make over $300,000/year) by cutting services (meter readers). The cost of Smart Meters is being paid for by the tax payer, not the exec's or NV Energy. Where do you think Federal Grant money comes from? The only way for the Fed's to spend money is to first collect it from the taxpayer!!! There are inherent privacy problems transmitting sensitive data wirelessly, and there is NO NEED to monitor usage every 15 seconds of every day. This is BIG BROTHER at it's very best. The Fed's can't even keep computer hackers out of their databases, nor can Financial institutions (Banks, Credit Card processors). What makes anyone think that NV Energy has better protection on our data in their computers? If you do, you better think again. It's in the news all the time. Open your eyes and ears, and you will learn!

This contraversy over smart meters are totally without merit. These meter cannot cause cancer, your microwave emits more radiation than the smart meter which are located outdoors and there is no way a smart meter can invade your privacy, there is not camera or way to communicate directly with any source, Facebook is more dangerous than a smart meter when it comes to privacy. The hysteria is caused by AARP which has no proof that smart meters are dangerous or intrusive. People need to quit complaining, I believe the complaints stem from their high utility bill, but what have these people done to reduce their use of electricity to reduce their bills.

When I lived in Massacushetts, for a period of time, city residents would call up the water department at a ceretain time and leave a recorded message with the reading of thier water meter. This was because the water meters were inside the house and difficult for city employees to gain access. If people don't like smart meters, then give them a break. Install regular meters in their homes. Once a month, they call a phone number and leave a message with a "reading" of their meter. They do this each month and NV Energy generates a bill using the reading provided by the resident. Then, once a year, an employee comes by and takes a reading of the meter. If the total KWH'S adds up to all of the readings phoned in during the previous 11 months, then all is well. If the total KWH'S are greater than the readings of the previous 11 months, then the resident is taken to court for thief of electricity. That should solve the problem concerning smart meters.
