(NBC News) -- There's another sign the U.S. auto industry is truly on the rebound.

Toyota has announced it will soon start exporting even more cars made in the United States.

The Corolla is the automaker's top seller around the world.

Thousands of them are manufactured at Toyota's assembly plant in Tupelo, Miss., and now thousands more will soon be needed for export.

Toyota North America CEO Jim Lentz says starting next April about 7,500 Corollas will be exported to 18 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.

It's part part of a deliberate push to increase exports.

"Last year, for example, we exported about 124,000 vehicles made in North America to 23 countries around the world," Lentz points out.

And Toyota's not the only one.

Nissan exports its U.S. built models to over 45 countries and two-thirds of the Mercedes SUVs made in Alabama are shipped overseas.

Domestic automakers are cashing in on exports as well.

Chrysler is on pace to more than double its exports by next year.
