LAS VEGAS (Las Vegas Sun) -- Two people died tonight when a semi-trailer rolled onto a car on Interstate 15 near the St. Rose Parkway exit, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The fatal accident happened shortly after 8:30 p.m. in a far right, southbound lane. The occupants of the 2006 Nissan sedan — a female driver and male passenger — were pronounced dead, Trooper Jeremie Elliott said.

The accident caused so much damage that authorities were still trying to remove the victims’ bodies from the vehicle, Elliott said.

It’s unclear what caused the semi-trailer to roll, he said. The male driver of the semi-trailer suffered minor injuries.

Motorists should expect delays in the area for several hours as troopers investigate the accident and clear the scene.

PAHOA, HAWAII - OCTOBER 26: In this handout provided by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), A portion of the front of the June 27th lava flow burns through thick vegetation and a fence on October 26, 2014 in Pahoa, Hawaii. Scientists of the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory conducted ground and air observations of the lava flow from the Kilauea Volcano and determined that it was 510 meters (560 yards) upslope from Pa-hoa Village Road and the flow width was about 50 meters (55 yards) at the leading edge. Molten rock from the flow is inching its way towards homes in the town of Pahoa on Hawaii's Big Island where close to a thousand people live. (Photo by USGS via Getty Images) (Handout, 2014 USGS)
