Two men are dead, a woman is in critical condition and police say street racing could be to blame. News 3's Elizabeth Donatelli joins us live from the scene of the crash on Centennial Center Boulevard. It's only August but Metro has already seen more traffic deaths this year than in all of 2011.
LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- Two men were killed and a woman was left in critical condition early Sunday morning in a single-car rollover accident, according to Metro police.
The vehicle hit a palm tree about 6:30 a.m. on Centennial Center Center Boulevard in northwest Las Vegas. The men died at the scene and the woman was taken in critical condition to UMC Trauma.
A Metro spokesman said the initial report was that two vehicles were racing when one lost control and hit the tree. But witnesses at the scene said they did not see racing activity.
Officials were still working the scene early Sunday afternoon because of a large debris field of engine and car parts was well as tree fragments. A hazardous materials team was helping to clean up the accident in the 6400 block of Centennial Center Boulevard, near U.S. 95.
The names of the deceased will be released by the Clark County coroner's office after autopsies and notification of relatives are complete.
The deaths are the 76th and 77th fatalities within Metro's jurisdiction in 2012.
