LAS VEGAS -- Las Vegas and Clark County firefighters responded to an apartment fire at the Villa Monterey Apartments late Thursday evening. Two people who live in the apartment are displaced because of the fire. There were no reported injuries.

Fire dispatchers received several 9-1-1 calls at 10:27 p.m. that an upstairs apartment in the 1200 block of Burnham Avenue, near Charleston and Eastern, was on fire. When firefighters arrived on scene, heavy flames and smoke were showing from the patio and living room of one unit in the two story wood frame/stucco building. It took firefighters only a few minutes to bring the fire under control.

The fire gutted the patio area, as well as the living room, kitchen and there was heavy heat and smoke damage throughout the rest of the unit. Damage was estimated at $50,000. No other units in the building were damaged.

Two senior adults live in the apartment. One of them was home watching TV when she heard loud popping noises coming from the patio and then she noticed fire on the patio. Fire investigators determined the fire started on the patio. It was covered with excess belongings and debris and there was several extension cords being used on the patio. Because of the excess debris and damage, an exact cause could not be determined.

The two adults were being relocated to another apartment within the complex.
