LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- UNLV head men’s basketball Coach Dave Rice and his wife Mindy officially announced today the establishment of the Dave Rice Foundation.
The Dave Rice Foundation will be a non-profit, tax exempt organization dedicated to the education and support of health initiatives including developmental disorders such as autism, and other charitable causes.
“This is an exciting day for Mindy and I as we have long thought about starting a foundation that will make a difference in the lives of others,” said Dave Rice. “In addition to our own son being diagnosed with autism, it has also affected members of our UNLV family. My assistant coach Heath Schroyer, as well as senior associate A.D. D.J. Allen both have children affected by autism. Shortly after being named head coach at UNLV, we knew this was the right opportunity.”
The board of directors will be comprised of Dave Rice, Mindy Rice, Sr. Associate Athletic Director and community activist D.J. Allen, local philanthropist Donna Findlay and former Runnin’ Rebel great Greg Anthony.
“The Foundation will allow us to directly impact children and families in the community dealing with autism,” said Mindy Rice, who will serve as the Foundation Secretary & Treasurer. “As a mother with a child with autism, starting this foundation means a great deal to us.”
Plans are underway for the Foundation’s first event: An Evening with Dave Rice on May 4, 2012 at the Palms Casino & Resort in Las Vegas.
