We're learning more today about the ambitious project to build a mega stadium on the UNLV campus. The UNLV now project is still in its infancy stage. Funding could come down to whether the casinos are on board. News 3's Sergio Avila is live at UNLV with how the resorts are expected to contribute. If this stadium is built it is going to be because of the resorts and a special tax district.

The dream of building a mega-stadium on the campus of UNLV could land right in the laps of the major resorts.

Today, the major casinos are being asked to cough up a bunch of money to make this idea a reality.

The board of regents will hear from Don Snyder, the man in charge of the project, and see a model of the stadium.

Snyder says they still have not determined how much the stadium is going to cost, but they're hoping to have private and public funds pay for it.

UNLV announced today they will not only ask casinos to contribute but they will also be asking the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

They say it's appropriate to ask them because the tourism industry is going to benefit tremendously because of the new stadium.

In a statement, the LVCVA said: "Tourism is the lifeblood of Southern Nevada's economy which is why the LVCVA's priority is promoting Las Vegas to attract visitors. With the Southern Nevada tourism industry in a gradual recovery, having the necessary resources to promote and market our number one industry to the world is critical.”
