LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- Hundreds, possibly even thousands of union workers spent hours standing outside in the cold today to prove they are who they say they are.

Members of the culinary union were forced to stand in line with identifying papers to be re-enrolled in their health care program.
Lines were literally wrapped around the block earlier today. People have been standing outside in this weather for hours, and many are unhappy.

“I’m really outraged,” Said union member Macauly Michael. “I don't know how much union support they're going to get when treating us like this.”

“We got here at a quarter to 10,” said union worker Ken Benoit. “so it's [been] about 3.5 hours. I don't know what time it is. It's freezing. Everybody's very mad.”

Along with those in line outside, many are inside a warming station, still waiting to meet with a representative. The members are in line with their dependents and their identification -- proof that they are who they say they are -- to try to prevent fraud.

This is the first time the culinary health fund has done enrollment in person like this, and most we talked to say it needs to be changed in the future.

A representative of the health fund says they are extending hours and the deadline to re-enroll.
