LAS VEGAS – United Blood Services of Las Vegas is calling upon community members to supply much needed reserves of O negative blood during the summer months. In order to encourage community support, UBS is offering special incentives for donors through a special weeklong promotion in honor of the Fourth of July holiday.

All donors supplying blood at any of the three Southern Nevada UBS locations from July 1 to 7 will receive a voucher for one 16-ounce cup of frozen yogurt from U-Swirl Frozen Yogurt and a patriotic T-shirt designed to commemorate our country’s birthday.

To schedule an appointment or to donate blood, call (877) 827-4376 or visit one of United Blood Services’ three Southern Nevada locations:

•6930 W. Charleston Blvd., Las Vegas.
•601 Whitney Ranch Drive, Suite 20, Henderson.
•4950 W. Craig Road, Las Vegas.

UBS will also offer additional incentives to O negative blood donors through its Hero Rewards Program, which offers points for blood donations that can be accumulated and exchanged for prizes ranging from movie tickets to gift certificates.

All O negative donors who participate in UBS’ Fourth of July promotion will receive an additional 600 points to utilize through the Hero Rewards Program. O negative donors can earn the additional points by donating blood between July 1 and July 7 at UBS’ local donation centers or mobile blood drives.

“With so many of our donors traveling during the summer months, it is extremely important that we build reserves of O negative blood for people in need,” said Danny Cervantes, regional donor recruitment director for UBS. “We hope the generosity of our community partners will inspire people to come to our donation centers and provide life-saving blood supplies that are desperately needed this time of year.”

Although blood is needed year-round, UBS has identified a critical need for O negative blood this summer. O negative blood is the universal blood type and the only blood type that can be transfused to patients with different blood types. O negative blood is especially useful in emergency and trauma situations, when blood is needed on an immediate basis.

UBS relies on local blood donations to make sure blood is available for those in need. The nonprofit organization aims to provide a safe and ample blood supply, while producing advanced, cutting-edge research.
