LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- A Las Vegas mother accused of throwing her two young children out a second story window remains hospitalized at University Medical Center.

Investigators say Luz Robledo may suffer from a condition common among mothers that can turn into debilitating depression.

Robledo is listed in fair condition this afternoon. Both of her children are still in critical condition.

"It's unfortunate. It's tragic," said Metro Sgt. Dan McGrath.

Police say Robledo threw or pushed her young children out a second-story window.

One is two-years old and the other is just 6-months-old.

The children fell about 20 feet to the ground.

Police say Robledo then threw herself out the window.

Robledo’s family told officers she suffers from postpartum depression.

"It’s hard to understand, but we still have to focus on the criminal investigation," McGrath said.

Sgt. McGrath works with Metro’s abuse and neglect unit and says it should have never come to this.

"We’re law enforcement but we will help people. We’re trained to talk to people when they’re undergoing those types of traumatic, stressful things, we will try and get them to a hospital," McGrath said.

Donna Wilburn, a licensed marriage and family therapist, says, in this kind of tragedy, women with postpartum depression are not logical and rational.

"They can get a thought process going that might seem like the right thing to do or the only thing to do, and they can follow through on that," Wilburn said.
