LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- New numbers from a Veterans Affairs report on hospital wait times are shocking federal officials.

Tonight we're learning that at least 1,700 military veterans waiting to see a doctor were never scheduled for an appointment and never placed on a wait list at the Veterans Affairs health care system in Phoenix.

The preliminary report comes after allegations that wait times at the facility led to the deaths of 17 veterans.

Now the scope of the investigation is widening.

Today 42 hospitals are under scrutiny for possible abuse of scheduling practices.

Now many lawmakers, including Senator Dean Heller are calling for the resignation of the secretary of Veterans Affairs, Eric shinseki.

Here at home another problem has emerged.

tonight's i-team investigation is our top story at 7.

For some local veterans, there are few things as simple as dialing 9-1-1 and few things as complex as what happens when a soldier does it.
