LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- For veterans coming home from active duty, getting back into the work force can be pretty tough.

A job fair Thursday was designed to make it a little easier.

Hundreds of local veterans lined up for a chance to score a job from the dozens of companies who set up booths at the Hiring Our Heroes Job Fair at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Martin Santiago, a U.S. Marine, is hoping to score a job in security or the legal field. His military experience listed on his resume is wide-ranging. He has been out of work for a year and a half.

Somehow he hasn't lost hope. He says maybe this will be the day someone gives him a chance to work in corporate America.

Of the 600 people expected at this job fair, at least 300 of them are expected to score job interviews.

Mike Rollins, a job fair organizer and a U.S Navy veteran, says there's room for improvement in those numbers. But he's thankful for the employers who are turning out to offer jobs and give valuable advice to job applicants.

Santiago goes table to table and booth to booth, waiting in lines with fellow servicemen and women.

He stood on the front lines once before. Now perhaps it's one of these lines that will help him get closer to building his career.

“I went there to fight for America,” he said. “I've been shot at, and I wish I could come here and get a job. I'm not asking for a lot, just a job.”

It’s a job that would mean so much to someone who right out of high school risked his life to serve this country.
