The Arizona and Nevada Departments of Transportation are working together on the two-year Interstate 11 (I-11) and Intermountain West Corridor Study.

Congress recognized the importance of the portion of the Corridor between Phoenix and Las Vegas and designated it as future I-11 in the recent transportation authorization bill, Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21). The study includes detailed corridor planning of a possible interstate link between Phoenix and Las Vegas, and high-level visioning for extending the corridor south to Mexico and potentially north to Canada.

ome sections of this corridor will be constructed or enhanced in coming years, while the majority of the corridor remains in the long range planning phase.

Any results or recommendations from this study would need to go through environmental, funding, design and right-of-way reviews before potentially being constructed in phases.,

The Corridor Concept Report and the supporting technical reports and work products will determine whether sufficient justification exists for a new multimodal transportation corridor.

It will also establish potential alternatives for the new I-11 and Intermountain West Corridor.

The report will outline four chapters: the need for a high-capacity, multimodal corridor to link economies; corridor alignment recommendations that link metro areas and connect communities; the economic value of investment in the corridor; and a call to action, emphasizing the need for continued collaboration to move the I-11 and Intermountain West Corridor forward.
