LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- A community in West Las Vegas is celebrating because new businesses are opening in the neighborhood - a new El Pollo Loco restaurant.

Lines of people waiting to buy lunch at the new El Pollo Loco, is indicative of West Las Vegas' needs and spending potential. As this new location opened its doors on Martin Luther King Boulevard, community leaders welcome it. Pastor S.S. Rogers of The Greater Mt. Sinai MRMI has been in this area for more than five decades.

"Used to be rabbits and everything else running around in this area of the community, but now it has been developed into a community that residents can come and have a good meal right here," Rogers said.

El Pollo Loco Area Leader Daniel Aleman is beaming with pride to provide food and service here. "This store has been a great experience for us and we're very honored to open in this part of town, especially in this part of town because there was nothing over here," Aleman said.

El Pollo Loco is one several recent businesses opening in the area. "I think it gives the community a face-lift, the residents that are here be better focused on 'this is our community' and we better take care of our community," Rogers said.

A church is under construction, and a medical center nearby is flourishing.

John Edmond lives in West Las Vegas, and owns a shopping center that does well, but he would like to see other investors come west.

"Vision for the future of this area, we've got to create more housing, more rooftops, we've got to create more people who are living and working on this side of town," Edmond said.

He says there are no national chain full-service restaurants here. "There is not a sit down type restaurant, you know you can't get a sit down restaurant probably within two, three miles in this side of the city," Edmond said.

As West Las Vegas experiences gradual revitalization, the F Street project moves forward connecting west side to downtown, and community leaders say there are plans to refurbish the historic West side School into a community center.
