LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- Three Clark County schools will be getting new principals and staff members in the coming weeks.
This is part of the effort to turn around the schools.
Elizabeth Wilhelm Elementary, and Sunrise Mountain and Cimarron Memorial high schools are the three newest schools put into the turnaround zones after an extensive review.
School District officials say they believe these schools needs more resources to help change its trend of chronically underperforming.
There will be new principals at the three schools who can choose 10 to 12 new staff members.
No one will be fired as part of this process because those not returning to the turnaround schools will be placed at others.
Parent Sandra Rodriguez says she's not surprised her twin boys and daughter's elementary school was put in the turnaround zone.
She says although it's a good thing that the district is providing the schools more resources, she wishes they were available from the very beginning.
“It's all about prevention, and it's like going to the doctor,” she said. “You go there to prevent illness; you don’t go to the doctor after something happens. Why can’t our children's education be just as important?”
There are 13 schools now in the turnaround zone.
