LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- A Las Vegas woman charged with DUI in a Saturday morning accident that killed a 33-year-old man told Metro that she had taken Xanax and consumed two beers in the hours before the accident.
According to the arrest report released today, Metro said Shauna Miller, 26, was driving a Hummer westbound on Spring Mountain about 7:20 a.m. when she went through a red light and T-boned the Escort in the driver's side door.
Miller told investigators that she worked as a dancer at the Spearmint Rhino and had consumed two beers and taken a pill of Xanax that she got from somebody at the club. She admitted that she did not have a prescription for the anti-anxiety drug. She said she had worked from about 2 a.m. until 5:30 a.m.
James Joseph White, 33, of Las Vegas had a green light while headed south on Wynn Road. A 2-year-old child in the Escort was transported to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
The Clark County coroner's office on Monday identified White.
Metro Lt. Glen Lowe said Miller failed a field sobriety test and was arrested to driving under the influence and booked into the Clark County Detention Center.
The death was the 30th traffic fatality in Metro's jurisdiction this year. The accident remains under investigation.
