LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- The woman shot and killed by Las Vegas police Saturday has been identified by the Clark County coroner’s office.

Police say Sharmel T. Edwards, 49, of Las Vegas pointed a gun at officers who were investigating a report of a stolen car.

According to the officers, a man reported that a woman he knew stole his car, but the woman ignored officers' commands after she was pulled over shortly after 1:30 a.m.

They say after she pointed a gun at them, five officers fired handguns and struck her multiple times. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The officers involved in the shooting were placed on routine paid administrative leave while the case is under investigation.

I'm not sure what scares me more in this hellhole that once upon a time was a beautiful prospering town, the criminals or Metro.

Your comment on the teaser about this story stating that officers were high fiving after the shooting, insinuating they were doing it because of killing her is TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY OFFENSIVE!!! I know MANY police officers and that's NOT how they react after a shooting!!! IF there was a high five, you have NO idea why it happended! They may have been high fiving someone that just had a baby, got engaged or ANYTHING!!! But to insinuate it was because of killing her is WRONG and disrespective! Sometimes officers have to disassociate from what just happened to maintain their sanity! They have an unbelievably tough job! When you start wearing a bullet proof vest to work then maybe you can judge!
